Prompt, Context, Memory, and User Influence

AI interaction might be better understood not as prompt engineering, but as context shaping. Prompting sets the starting condition of the dialogue. However, the actual behavior of the system emerges from the evolving conversational context created during the interaction.

In other words: the prompt initializes the system, but the conversation itself becomes the main control mechanism.

THE ROLE OF THE PROMPT

A prompt sets the initial conditions of the interaction with an AI system. It can define tone, expectations, or the direction of the first responses.

However, a prompt does not control the entire conversation.

Its influence decreases as the dialogue continues and more context is created.

For a prompt to work effectively, it should usually be written in the same language as the conversation. When the prompt and the chat use different languages, alignment between them becomes weaker over time.

CONTEXT SHAPES THE CONVERSATION

AI systems rely primarily on the context present in the conversation.

As the dialogue grows, the accumulated context becomes the main reference for generating responses. The system continuously reacts to what has already been said in the chat.

Because of this, the direction of the conversation is shaped by the ongoing interaction between the user and the AI, not by the prompt alone.

EXAGGERATION OF STYLE

In some interactions, AI responses can become exaggerated or overly stylized.

This often happens because the conversational context gradually pushes the dialogue toward a certain tone or style. The system adapts to signals present in the interaction.

Users may unintentionally influence this shift without being aware of it.

MEMORY AND CONTINUITY

Some AI systems retain memory from previous conversations. This memory can preserve information about recurring topics, user preferences, or general patterns of interaction. It allows continuity between conversations.

Memory does not always determine the conversational style. A conversation can drift away from both the stored memory and the original prompt if the context of the chat develops in another direction. Memory mainly functions as a shortcut for the preferred tone, allowing the system to recall the user’s style without requiring the same tone to be recreated in every new chat.

USER CONTROL OF STYLE

Changes in conversational style are usually introduced by the user.

If the user changes tone, structure, or framing, the AI adapts to that shift. In practice, the stylistic direction of a conversation is largely shaped by the user’s interaction with the system.

AI does not invent the conversational frame. It performs within the frame created by the interaction. The tone, expectations, and style introduced by the user strongly influence the behavior that emerges.

ANSWER

We may not fully understand the internal processes of AI systems, but we can observe how they behave during interactions.

AI operates within the conversational frame that is established by the interaction. It generates responses using the knowledge and patterns available to it, but it does so inside the topic, tone, and structure that the conversation has already created.

This means that AI does not suddenly invent a completely different context. The system continues to respond within the frame that has been set by the dialogue.

Even when AI produces uncertain or incorrect information, it usually does so within the same conversational structure. In other words, if the system guesses, improvises, or produces an inaccurate response, it still remains within the subject and context that the conversation established.

Because of this, the behavior of AI during a conversation can be understood as a response to the active conversational environment.

The system uses what it knows and what is available to it, but the direction of the interaction is largely shaped by the frame created by the conversation itself.
